Different people volunteer for different reasons.  Here are some of them:
  • Satisfaction at helping people who otherwise are unable to get the tax breaks and benefits that are rightfully theirs, and cannot afford to pay to get the advice.
  • Get trained in tax law, and learn how to interact with the public.
  • Enjoy the camaraderie of a group of really nice helpful people.
  • Gain experience in preparing taxes, something that could lead to a new career.
  • Bridge communication gap between tax payer and VITA volunteers if you are bilingual.
