These survival hints may be useful for new
site coordinators and transmitters.
- In California and several other
states, it is possible to transmit the federal and state returns
together, and this leads to returns being accepted faster.
However, every once in a while after the state return is accepted,
the Federal return is rejected for some reason. If reworking
the Federal return does not result in changes to the State Return,
things may be alright. However, on rare occasions, the change
in Federal return may have an impact on the State Return. This
means that the state return will have to be amended. To avoid
this problem, do what an experienced transmitter has suggested -
transmit the Federal returns first, then the state returns.
- Try to recruit an IT savvy volunteer
for the site. Some of these volunteers are less interested in
tax preparation and more interested in the challenges of setting up
the network and automating the process and experimenting with
configurations that they otherwise could not do in a corporate
setting. Take advantage of that desire!
