Midnight Madness was the grand finale for this filing season in San Jose. Midnight Madness was run by VITA volunteers at the Meridian and Lundy Post Offices.
VITA volunteers helped thousands of taxpayers with forms, extensions, answered basic tax questions, prepared basic returns and gave taxpayers the peace of mind from knowing that someone out there could help forward their returns to the right location.
18 VITA volunteers from 15 different sites wrapped up this season with a bang. The languages available included English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean. This was a great meeting of many minds. It was inspiring to see so many dedicated volunteers come together and share all that they learned over the filing season. The volunteers included volunteer IRS staff, San Jose State University students, Monta Vista High School students, Piedmont High School Students, and many other professional individuals. These people with very busy lives with school, work, family and other responsibilities made the effort to help as many low income, elderly or disabled people as possible.
The VITA program assisted 1600 people with forms, extensions, mailing addresses, and questions, prepared 150 basic returns and reached 165,000 people through the media. |
