VITA Volunteers

  • Prepare Federal Forms 1040EZ, 1040A, 1040 with Schedules A and B
  • California State tax forms 540-EZ and 540-A
  • Refer taxpayers with complicated returns or questions to an IRS publication, the IRS, or private processionals for assistance
  • Offer their services FREE of charge
  • Decline offers of payment

VITA Volunteers DO NOT

  • Prepare complicated returns
  • Prepare business returns
  • Distribute Tax Forms
  • Answer technical questions for which they have not been trained
  • Refer taxpayer to any one particular practitioner or firm
  • Accept pay or compensation for providing tax assistance or preparing tax returns.

Taxpayers should

  • Bring all W-2 forms, 1099s, Social Security cards for dependents
  • Bring Social Security cards and picture IDs of themselves
  • 2005 tax booklets received in the mail
  • Copy of  2004 (previous year's) return
  • Should both be present in the case of Joint filers
