Instructions for use of 8879 (PIN AUTH) within TaxWise

Even though you are using the Practioner PIN program you will still need to fill out the 8453 in your Tax Form Defaults. You will enter the EFIN in the first entry field then page down to the Part III: Declaration of Electronic Return Originator (ERO) and Tax Preparer. Here you will enter your SIDN, Site Name, and Site Address. Make sure to mark the box "IRS Only" to ensure that you will receive credit for your returns. The Site Name listed on the 8453 will carryover to the Main Information form in the PIN section and to the 8879.

While still in your Tax Forms Defaults you can go to the Main Information form under the "Self-Select and Practioner PIN" section where you will enter the five digit ERO PIN number. Mark the box below this to indicate that you are electing to use the Practitioner PIN. In the next section you can designate what form(s) you are filing using PINs in the Tax Form Defaults as "The income tax return".

When preparing a tax return both the taxpayer and the spouse will either need to choose to not authorize the preparer to enter the PIN and enter the five digit number themselves or they can authorize the preparer to enter the PIN for them. Once the PIN is entered it will carryover to the 8879 as will the spouses if applicable and the ERO's PIN.

The 8879 consists of only calculated fields, all the information will pull from the 8453 or the Main Information sheet. As long as the information is input correctly there is no need to override and entries or alter any information that is on the 8879.
