What is TaxWise ?

TaxWise is a commercial product for preparing and filing U.S. and State Income Tax returns. There is a licensing agreement between the IRS and the vendor of TaxWise under which VITA sites use TaxWise for computer tax preparation and electronic filing. (Naturally, hand prepared returns do not require any software.) It is not clear if TaxWise is the only software that can be used by VITA sites or other software can be used, but the IRS provides the software at no charge to registered VITA sites.
