The "Keep an EYE ON QUALITY" logo was first revealed to Santa
Clara County Site Coordinators at a meeting in November 2007.
Each coordinator was given two 8.5x11 size printed copy of the above logo to
display prominently on binder covers so that
everyone would be aware that volunteers (including volunteers themselves) would
be impressed and reminded about this initiative. (Question: wouldn't
keeping both eyes on quality be twice as effective, or should the other
eye be kept on some thing else?).
No further information or communication was received about this until the end of
February 2008, about a third of the way through the filing season, when site
coordinators were informed that lapel pins were being mailed, and were to be assigned to volunteers
using their own criteria for distribution. The quality pins, each packaged
nicely in cellophane, all had the label "Made in China".
A search for the phrase "Eye on
Quality" on the web using Google, Yahoo, and MSN Search engine returned a large
numbers of results (12,500 in Google, 64,600 on Yahoo, and 19,200 on MSN on
March 24, 2008) relating to various activities and industries. However, the first five
search engine results page on each of them had nothing related to the IRS or VITA. A
search for the exact phrase on the irs.gov website turned up 0 results.
For being such an important campaign, it was sure kept very quiet.
Quite by accident, the graphic
logo was seen on an IRS publication.
First five non-IRS employees
and first 5 IRS employees to send
a message to
webmaster@vita-volunteers.org by May 31, 2008 with the location of the logo on the
irs.gov web site will get his or her name printed on this web site with the time
of the message.
