According to the IRS website,  rebates will start going out in May.

If you filed your Tax Return by April 15, 2008
and there are no outstanding problems, you will receive your rebate according to whether you requested direct deposit or a paper check, and the last two digits of your Social Security Number

Let us say your social security number is:

                                XXX-XX-XXZZ

then the important numbers  ZZ are the last two SSN digits:

DIRECT DEPOSIT TO BANK

PAPER CHECK

Last two SSN digits:

Payment will be transmitted:

 00 through 20

 May 2

 21 through 75

 May 9

 76 through 99

 May 16

Last two SSN digits:  Payments will be mailed by:
 00 through 09  May 16
 10 through 18  May 23
 19 through 25  May 30
 26 through 38  June 6
 39 through 51  June 13
 52 through 63  June 20
 64 through 75  June 27
 76 through 87  July 4
 88 through 99  July 11

Note that with direct deposit you will probably get your money and be able to use it to stimulate the economy before the paper checks are mailed out!!

Why didn't I get how much I expected or anything at all?

The official IRS answers are available in the Frequently Asked Questions page

What if the 2007 return was not filed by April 15, 2008?

If you qualify for the rebate, then your rebate will be delayed, but you must file by October 15, 2008 to get your rebate this year.  If  you need help filling out the tax forms and filing them, some VITA sites will be able to help you.  There are also online services for you to complete and e-file your tax return.
