For taxpayers who did not or could not receive the economic stimulus rebate last year but can qualify this year, there is still another chance to file for it this year.  It appears that the IRS will compute the amount for you if you do not do it yourself; however, it turns out that if the amount included is incorrect, the return is rejected.

To avoid the return getting rejected, the accurate number needs to be put in.  That can be obtained by paperwork from last year rebate check.  There is an IRS online rebate calculator that is currently unavailable. Fortunately, the the is a "How much was my 2008 Stimulus Rebate?" web page on the IRS site where it is possible to find out how much the rebate should have been based on your 2007 return.  It requires only the SSN, the filing status, and the number of exemptions claimed on the 2007 return.  If that number is used in the 2008 Tax Return, it appears that the return will be accepted, even if it is not the amount actually received.
